The Role of a Wedding Planner

It may be appear glamorous to become a Wedding planner just as Jennifer Lopez portrayed in 2001 with her role in the "Wedding Planner" film. But the duties of a wedding planner may be something that is far from being just glamorous. First and foremost, when a couple who plans to get married hires the service of a wedding planner, they will assume and feel assured that their wedding will a success. Therefore the wedding planner must keep in mind that it is his or her job to make the wedding a memorable one, for the newly weds because everything went out perfectly and not because it was short of being a failure.

The period before the wedding is the stage where active participation of a wedding planner and constant communication with the couple are particularly necessary. This is when the planner is to plan all wedding details in an organized and systematic way. A meeting with the couple needs to be held in order to discuss with them about certain traditions or etiquette of their wedding. Together with the couple, the planner will go out to search for a suitable wedding venue. When the venue is finalized, the next duty for a planner to perform is again to discuss with the future bride and groom which wedding theme they fancy or if they already have a definite visualization. The wedding planner needs be able to gather appropriate wedding decorations to the color scheme and concepts as agreed with his/her client's demands.

These wedding arrangements needs to take in account of the types of flowers, centerpieces, menu and the cake. The wedding planner also takes care of the guests list such as making sure that all invitations are sent out to appropriate recipients on time. Should the couple ask for further assistance regarding wedding vows and speeches, the planner must readily be able to comply. The selection of wedding dresses and garments for both bride and groom as well as for the bridesmaids and groomsmen may also fall under the care of the planner. Other per-wedding duties of a planner includes scheduling and supervising wedding rehearsals, booking for a photographer and music, providing transportation of the bride and groom along with their family to and from the venue.

On the wedding day itself, the planner must effectively supervise the proceedings of the ceremony to make sure that everything goes according to plan. He or She also ensures that caterers, singers, musicians and photographer are carrying out their tasks successfully. The planner needs to be flexible in order to act accordingly should emergencies occur parking problems or lighting technicalities. Attending to the guests and making sure that the bride and groom are positively happy with the flow of things and activities on their wedding day.

At the end of the reception when the guests are starting to leave, it is also part of the planner's duties is to ensure that every guest is given a wedding favor. Vacating the venue on the agreed time is yet a responsibility of the wedding planner as well as ensuring that all hired services have been paid and been cleared.
